Introduction — Web of Science consists of five databases that contain information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals in all areas of research. They include:

  • Science Citation Index Expanded™
  • Social Sciences Citation Index®
  • Arts & Humanities Citation Index®
  • Index Chemicus®
  • Current Chemical Reactions®

Citation Databases - The three citation databases contain the references cited by the authors of the articles. You can use these references to do cited reference searching. A cited reference search enables you to find articles that cite a previously published work. In addition, you can search the three databases by topic, author, source title, and address by using the Search and Advanced Search options.

Chemistry Search - The two chemistry databases allow you to create structure drawings to find chemical compounds and reactions. You can also search these databases for compound and reaction data. These databases require a separate subscription in addition to your subscription to Web of Science.
