Introduction Web of Science consists of five databases that contain information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals in all areas of research.

  • Science Citation Index Expanded™
  • Social Sciences Citation Index®
  • Arts & Humanities Citation Index®
  • Index Chemicus®
  • Current Chemical Reactions®

The three citation databases contains the references cited by the authors of the articles. You can use these references to do cited reference searching. A cited reference search enables you to find articles that cite a previously published work.

In addition, you can search the three databases by topic, author, source title, and address by using the General Search and Advanced Search options.

The two chemistry databases allow you to create structure drawings to find chemical compounds and reactions. You can also search these databases for compound and reaction data.
