January 2004: New time-range code from Derwent Update 200403
The new Polymer Indexing Codes were implemented from Derwent Update 200403. The Time Range Code within the Polymer Indexing fields changed from 018 to 2004 from that update. If you have any questions about this implementation please contact your local Help Desk team.
December 2003: Summary of new concepts and codes to be introduced January 2004
We would like to thank everyone who contributed suggestions to this revision. The new concepts and codes updated with scope notes and UF, have been incorporated in this updated PDF document.
We have also produced two quick reference sheets – one with all the new codes and concepts and one with all the Chemical Aspects.
June 2003: Revised CPI Plasdoc Coding Systems manual
The CPI Plasdoc Coding Systems manual has recently been updated.

A99-A Manual Code
The A99-A manual code was introduced in 2001 for patents with minor polymer interest, as a filtering device to eliminate low interest records.
However, since its introduction we have received regular feedback on the lack of consistency and accuracy of the application of this code in accordance with our guidelines. As a result of this continued feedback from customers we have carried out a thorough review of the comments and queries, as was agreed initially, and feel that ongoing we can no longer continue with the current treatment of A99-A documents.
As some customers do find the A99-A code useful we will continue to apply it, but in addition we will apply full manual coding, and polymer indexing if appropriate (i.e. if it is from a patent authority that gets full indexing – see below).
These changes were implemented at the beginning of 2003 and we are retrospectively applying additional A manual coding and deep indexing to those records within the backfile with A99-A.
Polymer Indexing by Patent Authority
Which countries get manual coding and indexing?
We have received several requests for clarification on which patent authorities we provide polymer indexing for. The table below indicates the current treatment of patents by country or patent authority.
