Japanese Human-Assisted Machine Translations

This service provides you with high-quality manually-enhanced machine-translations of Japanese-language patents quickly and is a cost-effective alternative to investing in a fully manual translation.

Team of Specialists

All translations are processed in our Tokyo office, using our own dedicated in-house translation systems. The results of the translation are then post-processed by technical, bi-lingual staff in Japan prior to delivery. Manual enhancement improves the quality of the machine-translation.

Manually-enhanced English and Bi-Lingual translations

Manually-enhanced MAT translations can be provided in double-column format (Japanese and English text) where the original patent text and illustrations are embedded within the MAT translation output. Alternatively you can request, single-column English-only output.

You may request specific pages or sections for translation (e.g. claims-only, front-page & claims) if a full document translation is not required.

Types of Patent

All types of Japanese patents are covered:

1. Unexamined Japanese Patents and Utilities (JP-A/U) - Published before January 1993 (up to & including JP-04....)
Examined Japanese Patents & Utilities (JP-B/U) - Published before January 1994 (up to & including JP-05....)
These patents require additional manual processing to be undertaken to scan and OCR all the text from the original paper document then manually correct any OCR errors prior to undergoing MAT processing.

2. Unexamined Japanese Patents and Utilities (JP-A/U) - Published from January 1993 (JP-05....) onwards
Examined Japanese Patents & Utilities (JP-B/U) - Published from January 1994 (JP-06....) onwards.

3. Japanese-language PCT (WO) patent documents - Published from 19 October 1978 onwards

All Japanese text within the original patent drawings can also be manually translated (upon request) for an additional fee.

Page Layout Options

Manually-enhanced MAT translations are provided in double-column format (Japanese and English text) or upon request in single-column English-only text format. In each case, the illustrations are embedded within the MAT translation outputs. There is no difference in price for taking the text in single-column or double-column.

PDF and Word Delivery Options

All outputs are electronically delivered by Email unless otherwise arranged. Electronic copies of translations can be provided in Adobe Acrobat PDF file format (where the Adobe Acrobat (R) Reader may be freely downloaded from www.adobe.com) or in Microsoft Word format files (a Japanese enabled PC or Japanese font viewing software is required to view the kanji text in double-column format documents).

There is no difference in price for taking the text in single-column or double-column.
