Zoological Record is indexed
using an extensive thesaurus of around 6,000 terms developed over more than
20 years. The thesaurus is designed primarily as a tool for information organization
and retrieval of information in the Zoological Record database and associated
services. Further information relating to the thesaurus (scope notes, related
terms etc.) is available in the Zoological Record Search Guide and is
included as an online or on-disc thesaurus as part of the Zoological Record
electronic products.
Systematic
Thesaurus
The Systematic Thesaurus comprises around 3,000
taxonomic names of family level and above arranged phylogenetically in a hierarchical
classification scheme representing the various taxonomic groups of the animal
kingdom. It is not intended to be authoritative, but is based on established,
standard reference works and accepted classification schemes. Sections of the
hierarchy covering groups whose taxonomy is less stable are often not further
subdivided, in order to maintain consistency in placement of taxa. For further
details of the classification sources used for any particular group, or to submit
comments or suggestions relating to the thesaurus, contact BIOSIS
UK.
Subject
Thesaurus
The Subject Thesaurus comprises around 3,000
terms arranged in hierarchies representing major subject areas.
