New and Revised Manual Codes
We thank all customers who contributed to the revision of our Manual Codes,
either by submitting suggestions or commenting on the proposals. Almost 1400
new codes were added in CPI and EPI for Derwent Update 2002/01, which should
improve retrieval and/or relevance for Subscribers in all technology areas.
You can view the new and modified codes for each CPI and EPI section, plus
discontinued codes, in the pdf documents listed opposite. If you run any in-house
or online Alerts/SDIs please update your files to incorporate these enhancements.
EPI Manual Codes
The number of EPI Manual Codes has grown to approximately 9500 as a result
of the revision for 2002. This is an increase of about 800 codes, including
a new section (T01-N) specifically for internet technologies and a major enhancement
to the coverage of business methods (T01-J05). Other revisions include a rationalisation
of audio/visual recording technologies (in W04 and T03) to account for changes
in the nature of the technology, improved coverage of 3rd Generation mobile
phone technology, and, more descriptions for nanotechnology.
CPI Manual Codes
A total of 101 new and modified CPI manual codes were introduced in the life
sciences (B, C and D) areas. T o improve coverage of protein and gene analysis,
a new proteomics and genomics section and subsections have been introduced (B/C11-C08F).
New codes have been included for distinct cell types in B/C04, and a number
of manual codes for specific diseases and pharmaceutical activities have also
been introduced in the B/C14 area.
Polymer Codes
Similarly, 27 new Polymer codes were introduced alongside approx. 100 Section
E, 63 Section N (Catalyst) and 273 Sections H to M codes. The new codes included
many new process codes in the E, J and N Sections to improve the coverage of
process patents and codes for combinatorial processes and apparatus were introduced
in B, C and E sections. Other heavily used codes were sub-divided, to improve
the relevance of online searches.
