THOMSON SCIENTIFIC OPENS NEW FACILITY IN CHENNAI
CHENNAI, India - May 17, 2007
The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), one of the world's leading information services companies, today announced plans to expand its operations in India by opening a Thomson Scientific centre in Chennai and expanding operations in Hyderabad. The new centre will combine authoritative information with innovative technologies to enhance customers' ability for better results. The centre will enable the research and business communities by providing cutting-edge life sciences information from patents, scientific journals and conferences.
The centre, which will be The Thomson Corporation’s third major centre in India, will complement the company’s growing India operations by providing information-based solutions with technologies that assist with discovery, analysis, product development and distribution.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Stephen Quinn, Senior Vice President, Editorial Operations Thomson Scientific said: “We are thrilled to be expanding our operations in India. Our new centre in Chennai will be an important element in Thomson Scientific’s business operations strategy in 2007 and beyond as we continue to pursue new opportunities designed to drive higher sustainable growth and further improve profitability across our global footprint. We are confident that the employees who make up our Chennai and Hyderabad teams will become an integral part of Thomson Scientific’s vision to become the premier electronic workflow solutions provider to business and professional customers globally.”
Thomson Scientific plans to hire a mix of experienced professionals, PHDs, scientific researchers as well as undergraduate/postgraduate students from leading educational institutions with relevant skills for both the centers. The company expects to hire approximately 500 employees for the editorial group over the next 3 months.
The opening of the Chennai center represents a reaffirmation of The Thomson Corporation’s long-term commitment to its business operations in India. Since1994, Thomson has expanded its headcount and scope of services provided locally, and now employs more than 2,200 employees in Bangalore and over 150 employees in Hyderabad.
“The fact that Thomson chose Chennai as home to its editorial operations is testament to the value and quality that Thomson has experienced in India,” said Viji Krishnan, Vice President, Strategy & Implementation, Thomson Scientific. “Employees in Chennai will become key partners in our business, and through Thomson Scientific’s globally recognized training, learning and development programs, will have access to exciting career advancement options and unique global opportunities.”
