The all-database search in the new ISI Web of Knowledge
One search delivers complete results
This means that a search with ISI Web of Knowledge will find all relevant items that may have originally been categorized differently. Newer terms recognize older terms. Specialized terms from one database recognize specialized terms from another. And searchers can easily narrow down their results by using categories meaningful to their search.
How ISI Web of Knowledge links its varied data and search terms together: An example
One of the records returned by the topic search 'global warming' or 'climate chang*' is 'Environmental optimist or pessimist?' by J. L. Schnoor, from Web of Science®. Figure 1
This record is an editorial from the science journal Environmental Science and Technology. There are no keywords or abstracts available, and the search terms aren't in the title. So how did the global warming search find it?
It was found because this item is indexed not only in Web of Science, but also in other databases such as BIOSIS Previews® . BIOSIS specialized indexing includes the terms 'government and law' and 'global warming' (figure 2). The new ISI Web of Knowledge all-database search was able to use the power of BIOSIS classifications to find this relevant item.
