The Changing Environment for Information Professionals

“We live in a world of change...and nowhere is this more obvious than in the world of information and communications,” said Janice Lachance, CEO of the Special Libraries Association (SLA). Lachance spoke these words at a recent industry event to get information professionals to think about some of the key technical and social changes impacting our environment.

This observation is highly pertinent for all functions in a general business environment, but for information professionals in particular, how do we make that great shift to reinvent the delivery of information services?

These technical and social changes range not just from the impact that web 2.0 technologies could have on information service delivery, but also on the generational influences that will affect future recruitment as a result of the coming information professional talent shortage. The message for all who want to continue to grow and develop their deliverables in line with these changes is to adopt a new plan for service transformation.
