Even after 15 years working for one of the largest generic pharmaceutical companies in the world, Judith Shiloni is still fascinated by the vital role information plays in the pharmaceutical product development lifecycle.

When Judith joined TEVA Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd in 1991, she was a solo Information Specialist charged with the initiation, set-up, and development of a Corporate Information Services Department. Today she manages a team of six that provide a wide array of enterprise-wide services.

“The diversity and global presence of the company make the provision of Information Services a complex and demanding task — requiring constant adaptation to the changing corporate environment,” says Judith. “We are constantly searching for better solutions for our end-users.”

Such was the impetus for the recently launched Infosite — an innovative, in-house developed Information Intranet Portal designed to meet all the information needs of TEVA’s entire global workforce.

Infosite holds more than 60 databases adapted for end-user searching, covering scientific, medical/clinical, pharmaceutical, chemical, regulatory, standards, R&D and business-related resources — all accessible to any TEVA professional user requiring information for their daily work. Users can search the resources on their own, request searches and specific professional assistance via the portal, and order and manage their professional literature requirements.

The INFOSITE portal also includes an extensive variety of help materials such as training guides, search tips and tutorials, along with other valued-added features.

Judith considers the comprehensive, state-of-the-art intranet solution to be the crowning achievement of her professional career, and with good reason. “The enthusiastic feedback we get is testimony to the value this portal creates in our corporate environment,” she says. “We have gone beyond traditional library boundaries and have become content and information solution providers — acting as the professional excellence center in our organization on information-related issues.”

Looking ahead, Shiloni sees the position of Information Professional as ever-changing to meet the challenges of the industry. “Our professional content ‘advisory’ role will expand to focus more on content analysis or management,” she predicts.
